Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 71: Sara

Prompt: "A song about an ass"

Selected by Sara

"Dominick the Donkey"
Lou Monte
single, 1960

I wrote down the song for Day 71 so long ago that I legitimately just thought "Wow, Nate is going to have a hard time finding a song about a donkey from the 2020s." Well, joke's on me, because I took this so literally. The joke is not on Nate, because ass and throwin' ass is real hot these days.

I'm going to assume most of you reading have heard this song before. What a horrible treat you can hear on the radio from October until early January. I actually did not know about this song until I moved to Philly for school. I think it comes along with the Italian heritage floating around these parts. I also learned about colloquial Italian slang from these parts that just blew my mind. Gravy, rigut, manicot, mutzarell, cutlets. I had never heard of these things, being from Maryland and not really interacting with the culturally Italian. Now I hear it in my sleep.

The joke is even more on me because Nate chose the same song
