Hate to add to the recent drive-by on Of Montreal, but this song is not especially good. HOWEVER, upon viewing the band live a few weeks ago, it whipped a pretty good amount of ass. Much of that, now that the composition can be more closely studied, has to do with the performance (a particularly spirited drummer, a louder-and-more-interesting keyboard station, a bunch of people with S&M outfits and animal heads dancing around the stage), less to do with the guts of the song itself. This, of course, is the value of live performance; something mundane might get elevated to a higher plane, some things that live as incredible moments on recording may thud back to earth (every live performance of “You! Me! Dancing! by the beloved Los Campesinos! comes to mind).

Incredible timing with that last sentence, since we can all scroll up and literally listen to a live version of "You! Me! Dancing!" from Monday night and decide for ourselves whether it does indeed thud back to earth. I don't even choose the order of these prompts! I use a random number generator! The blog is magic!
