I gotta assume that most people didn't even realize that we switched this week's scheduled album less than two weeks ago. Fine Art by Fine Art exists, I swear. It just doesn't exist online. But you know the trite saying that god-fearing boomers usually say: everything happens for a reason. I would like to believe that the folks who reviewed The Medicine this week liked it a lot better than they would have Fine Art. I'm writing this before reading anyone else's reviews, so I guess that remains to be seen. How'd it work out? Did any of these reviews persuade you? Let's chat in the comments about emo, god, your weekend, really anything, I'll be there.

I will answer my own question and say that the other reviews did NOT persuade me to shrug my shoulders at Midwest emo. I understand that this is not a shining stand-out example of the genre, but I still feel the passion when I listen to it. I'm glad that happenstance put it on our laps this week. Next week will present a slightly different flavor of emo, maybe this one will get the butts out of the proverbial seats.
Looks like the final album of the summer is going to be Reality Awaits by the Strokes, unless anything crazy happens.
Were I going to Newport Jazz Festival, I'd probably get excited for Herbie Hancock (and pray for at least either "Watermelon Man" or "Cantaloupe Island," or maybe even both) and Lake Street Dive (I know they weren't the most beloved RC band when we covered them seven years ago, but they've really grown on me since then, and I gotta imagine they put on a great show). I don't have to ask Gloria what she's most excited for, because I read her PoYB jazz column, Through My Ears. That's the power of blogging!!!!
I read somewhere that on later albums, the Jazz June really do experiment with some jazz sounds. I don't know if that's true, and it's gonna be a little bit before I explore it for myself, but I'll let you know in a year or two if there's anything worth noting.

Eh, I dunno, I liked it, and the ritual of Record Club always makes something feel a little more special to me than it might have otherwise.
