Sunny Daze for President, Brianna

Having never heard of Sunny Daze & the Weathermen before, I was pleasantly surprised with the vibe when I first popped this album on! The surf-rock vibes are always a welcome sound in my book, and the fast-paced energy of almost every track had me bopping along as I drove to and from work this week. It's the kind of music that gets you moving.

It is also the kind of music that, well, I feel like I've heard a million times before. There wasn't a bunch here that felt very new to me. This could be a pitfall of the genre as a whole, but even song to song, I didn't feel like there was a lot of variety to enjoy. I blame the Nude Party for already putting out the surf-rock album of the year in February!!

Standout moments for me include the progression of instrumentals across the "Sun God" trilogy, the sick sax solo at the end of "Goner," and the dashes of Talking Heads / B-52s felt in "Wasting my Time."

Despite my gripes with variety, these highlights have me planning on dipping another toe in the Sunny Daze pool soon enough. For now, take 3.5/5 pukes!
