Prompt: "The song you think of when you hear the word 'emo'"
Selected by Pat
My Chemical Romance
The Black Parade, 2006
When I was fifteen, I was allowed to spearhead the Halloween decorations for my parents' house. I used black tarps and unused patio furniture to create a makeshift evil doctor's lab, and recruited my friend Jim to play the poor, unfortunate test subject. When trick or treaters would come in, I (The Doctor) would pretend to reach into Jim and pull out his organs. The children would run back the way they came, right into my mom, who was ready to smooth over their new trauma with Milky Ways.
This all went swimmingly, until one fucking guy dressed as Lukas Haas (The Patient) in the "Welcome to the Black Parade" music video walked in and declared—loudly, in no uncertain terms—that this wasn't even scary. I don't know why this comment flipped my switch the way it did. Maybe I was hurt that all my hard work was being written off. Maybe it was my general contempt at the time for emo culture. Whatever the case, I picked up a piece of wood (the porch was a mess) and told him—loudly, in no uncertain terms—to get the fuck out of my lab. He obliged. I like to think that decision is the one from his youth he regrets the least.

NOTE: Once a song is published, I will no longer accept submissions of that song for this Challenge. However, if I receive an email with a song before that song is originally published, then there's not much I can do. Wouldn't be fair to tell Pat, who sent me his submission for today's song in an email dated December 21, 2023, that his song is now a repeat. If anyone needs any clarification on this rule, please respond below.
