The End Is Near, Nate

The thing about slowing something down as a gambit to achieve gravitas and greater meaning is that sometimes it works (like in the instance of the legitimately moving Bieber song slowed down by 800%, essentially turning into Sigur Rós), and sometimes you get a doom-core cover of "Save Tonight" (link not found, you're welcome). On the whole, the New Year stay on the right side of the line, though it's telling that the album's best moments are the ones where the BPMs get up above 60 ("Plan B" especially). You can see how a band like this could create a cult around them, even if you yourself won't be running out to buy white Nikes.
