Prompt: "A folk song from the '60s"
Selected by Galia
"Scarborough Fair/Canticle"
Simon & Garfunkel
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, 1966
Two summers ago, I had a beautiful herb garden on my deck that contained all the herbs in this song but sage, and with an addition of basil and chives. This was a summer I decided to not be responsible by not getting a full-time job between my two years of grad school, and continue to burn through my savings. I didn't have too much going on during my days, so these herbs became my babies. I tended to them every day: watering, pruning, and snipping for eating. I felt like the MOST together person when I was cooking and could just go outside and CLIP the ingredients I needed from the herbs of my labor! Then the summer came to an end and our apartment was too small to house more plants, so I meticulously cut, washed, and froze the remaining herbs. Since this past summer I actually had adult responsibilities and moved, I did not remake this herb garden, but next summer, I'd like to take a stab at it again.
