Album of the Week: Steel Wheels

SUCCESS: We are listening to an album this week that was created before 2019. FAILURE: We are listening to an album this week that was created by a bunch of white dudes.

For content from previous weeks, or for reviews separated by author, you can click on various links in the sidebar on the right. You are smart, you can find them. If you can't, then just keep reading below, and follow along in the week we are currently in. Record Club! Woohoo!

WEEK 24 — July 14-20, 2019

What we're listening to this week (Joe's pick):

ALBUM: Steel Wheels
ARTIST: The Rolling Stones

RELEASED: August 29, 1989

WHAT GENRE IS THIS: It's the Rolling Stones, c'mon

WHY JOE PICKED IT: One Christmas gift and one Jagger heart surgery later, Pam and I are going with a bunch of my family to see the Stones in concert next week. My plan was to try to become familiar with as many Rolling Stones albums as I could before then (a slow process), even though, yeah, they are absolutely gonna stick to the hits while playing live. But apparently they played a song from Steel Wheels at the first concert on the tour for the first time since 2002, so this is the album we have this week. Sorry if it blows dick! It's 1989 Stones! It might!

TRACKLIST:
  1. Sad Sad Sad
  2. Mixed Emotions
  3. Terrifying
  4. Hold On to Your Hat

READING SOME SHIT: Fuck reading this week, how about you watch the documentary Gimme Shelter, in which Hell's Angels murder a fan at a Rolling Stones gig. Watch a shitty version with Spanish subtitles here, or bootleg a better version somewhere else. But mostly, just pray that I don't get murdered by a security guard on the 23rd.

Happy listening, fam! Have a great week!
