Sports, Gilson

How could I judge this now, as a 40-year-old man, with a lifetime of mistakes and regrets and failures and successes and rebirths and victories in between? Sports is a time capsule of the most important things being those which matter least. It is universal in its specificity, and it is a tale of details I have not and cannot relate to. It is the life I grieve because it is no longer being lived, and it is the celebration that I have outlived it. I am glad that I had Sports when I was younger. I am glad that it is here for future emotional young adults to hear and see themselves in. It is not me, but it was. We move past it but never too far. Sports believes in the future... and so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into our 20s, never quite outrunning the insecurities belied within even as we have long since abandoned the dock which it has set out from.
