Prompt: "A song you'd play on election day"
Selected by Fisher
"Sleep Now in the Fire"
Rage Against the Machine
The Battle of Los Angeles, 1999
A song I remember fondly from yesteryear, a music video my sisters and I can reference, a cynical song from a cynical band. These are all good things to me.
I don't need to explain the meaning of this song. Shit jumps right out at you. It doesn't particularly "mean" anything to me. It's just something I like to bop to. Are they hypocrites for profiting off the system? Don't give a fuck.
I've just read over the lyrics for the first time. Turns out a bit of mondegreening had been in place, but I always knew the message. And yeah, I'm about it. The rich are corny, they fuck our shit up, and then we do as we're told. Tale as old as time.
I like this for election day until such a time as it becomes incorrect.
