Arbiter, Nate
The record is fine, as far as these things go. It's metalcore toe-dipping into light prog, coming off like Coheed and Cambria for people who have not done acid. If these references mean nothing, the record likely won't either. "Tunguska" is the hit, "I Catapult" is the deep cut.
What's more interesting is the notion of "post-hardcore" as a genre. There are only a handful of pure, uncut post-hardcore records; pretty much everything Fugazi has ever done, Terrorhawk by Bear vs Shark, Relationship of Command by At the Drive In, the last two La Dispute records. Everything else is somewhere on the "emo" or "metalcore" spectrums, with no foot entrenched deep enough in either embankment to make a clean claim. As such, this maligned sub-genre of loud music becomes a home for wayward children. It deserves better, but it doesn't deserve Hopesfall.
