I imagine that learning English is frustrating. In fact, I don't have to imagine it. I'm witnessing that learning process every day in my own household, as my kids learn to read and write. There are so many questions about weird little English language quirks that I simply don't have an answer to. Why, for instance, is "bass" either a musical instrument or a fish, and why is "bass" pronounced differently depending on which one you mean, but spelled the same either way? I don't know. But you better fucking know it!!!!
Especially if your local album of the week club is going to be covering a bass-forward jazz album. That's bass with a long A, the instrument. No mentions of fish anywhere on this album. Just so you know. But let's talk about it—the instrument, the fish, the album, life in general, whatever. How are you feeling today?

Happy Friday, everybody. We have survived another Jazz Week (noted jazz hater Nate took sick leave). This actually was not like any other Jazz Week we've had before. Probably more rock in the equation than jazz, in my estimation. But I always appreciate what jazz does to the reviews: they become open-ended, and you can write basically whatever you want.
Let's see, what are some extraneous thoughts today from these reviews...
I appreciated the recipe. I'll cop to never really using recipes that people give me. I could follow a recipe if I was trying to make a meal, but I think I'm too lazy to go out and get specific ingredients. Am I going to go out and buy tamari? Will I spend $2 on the one little tiny piece of celery that I need and then let the rest rot in my fridge? That's the shit I'm not good at. I liked the recipe's inclusion though. This felt like the perfect album for one.
I'm glad that I wasn't the only one to consider the Philly-ness of the album. Hoping that Stef pops in here this morning to talk about how her husband plays the bass too.
Sunny unfortunately wished it on a monkey's paw and now I will be cursed if I don't involve Darrell Clarke in this blog in some way.

It's a little weird because I don't have an Instagram beyond a burner account, so this semi-famous jazz musician is getting DMs from an anonymous account with no posts and one friend? Doesn't feel right.
Though I am going to file this away for future use: DM twelve RC artists, asking if they will pick the next album, and see how many responses I get.
I tried the recipe as a light snack since I had 7/8ths of the ingredients (particularly a bunch of leftover rice). Was an easy tasty thing to hold me over til dinner. Thanks Zach!
