Album of the Week: Man It Feels like Space Again

If you feel like you are struggling to find the motivation to write a review, one way to force yourself to do it is to just pick that week's album. Then you'll have to write about it. Problem solved. That's what Mandy is doing this week. She'll be writing her first PoYB post in over ten years.

But whether you have any desire to write at all, or would rather just sit back and listen to some new shit, then you are in the right place regardless. Record Club—thanks for being a part of it, folks. Check out the archives along the sidebar to the right, and then read below to find out what we're discovering this week.

Week 29 — August 18-24, 2019

What we're listening to this week (Mandy's pick):

ALBUM: Man It Feels like Space Again
ARTIST: Pond

RELEASED: January 23, 2015

WHAT GENRE IS THIS: Psychedelic rock

WHY MANDY PICKED IT: "I picked this album because it's been a hard sell for me when I've tried to get friends into it. I'm a sucker for musicians from Perth, Australia (Tame Impala, Steams, Jebediah, etc.) and for poppy neo-psychedelia. I've seen these guys a bunch of times and am eagerly awaiting their recent show at Underground Arts. I am hoping that everyone starts crushing on the zany, time-capsule-esque grooviness of my favorite Aussies, but the years have made me comfortable in other's rejection of their music." [Editor's note: There was also a coin flip involved in this decision.]

TRACKLIST:
  1. Waiting Around for Grace
  2. Elvis' Flaming Star
  3. Holding Out for You
  4. Zond
  5. Heroic Shart
  6. Sitting Up on Our Crane
  7. Outside Is the Right Side
  8. Medicine Hat
  9. Man It Feels like Space Again
READING SOME SHIT: This 2015 interview from Glide Magazine is the choice this week, if only because they acknowledge right off the bat the fact that this album has a song called "Heroic Shart."

Happy listening, fam! Have a great week!
