This Is My Blood: Silk

I figured we'd get around to featuring wine on here eventually. I drank wine today in an attempt to save some beers for the rest of the week—the stockpile is running low, and going to the store to replenish the inventory might literally kill me. I had no problem drinking the wine—I mostly enjoy the taste of any kind of wine, and it paired particularly well with our K*** Family Friday Night Pizza Party—but the problem arises when I have to write about it. I have nothing intelligent to say, and I have no desire to learn more about it like I do with beer. Wine is a nice drink, whereas beer is purported to be my blood.

The plan, as flippant as it may appear when typed, is that I will keep an ongoing list of the reasons I like beer better than wine, and I will list one reason every time that I drink wine and am thus forced to right about it in some fashion in this column. This will probably not happen too often, but who knows (i.e. who really knows how long the silent threat of an invisible virus lurking in the aisles of the six-pack store will last)?

REASON #1
I hate that wine is typically served warm.

This is probably a middle class American thing, pressed upon me from years of Sprite ads going "AHHH" and helping my dad fill his immense water jug up with 47 pieces of ice before a hot day of delivering the mail, etc., but I cannot escape the notion that ice cold beverages equate to refreshment. The juxtaposition of hot food and cold drink is especially enjoyable. To me, this is innate, and it clashes wildly with the idea of tepid wine being served and enjoyed.

It was served at room temperature, and I still enjoyed it, but slightly less so, because it wasn't cold. Hot pizza and a lukewarm drink? We can do better.
