If I had to pick a favorite song of all time this might be it. I made my students listen to this before we talked about "end-of-life care." A funeral song is a lot though. It feels like it should be a song that sums up your whole life. And how does one song do that? So, I don't know. If I die tomorrow, this can be my funeral song. But who knows what the next few decades will bring. Hopefully I live that long! As I've written before on the SSC, my maternal grandparents are 88 and 89. I'd be more than happy with 80-some years.
A life spent with those who matter most is all I need. I used to care about leaving a legacy, making a name for myself and all that. But I've come to realize that my legacy is my family. Jobs come and go. And a lot of times you're just a number to them anyway. Family is where it's at. And if we were vampires, we probably wouldn't care that much to make these years count, since we'd have many many many more... forever... to do all that. But life is precious. Make it count in the way that matters to you!
