Asking for a Ride, Nate

Here then is America's answer to PUP, a rock and roll band first, divided into segments and genres second. If the equation of the former is "Van Halen + Hot Water Music," the math here is closer to "Def Leppard + So-Cal." Pop remains the forefront operating principle, as does borrowing guitar tones and song textures that likely aim for "timeless" while landing somewhere closer to "dated." That said, if one wanted to be a cynic, there are worse ways to ensure you can tour with both Joyce Manor and hitch a ride on the lucrative State Fair circuit as a warm-up act. Detaching from cynicism, it's hard to find significant fault with anything the band has cooked here, especially if you're the sort who wonders where the rock bands went. Whatever remains of terrestrial rock radio, there is no just world where White Reaper isn't a part of it. Put it another way: It's nice to listen to a nice album in the genre of one's preference. For those about to rock, make sure you take some acid reflux prevention medicine.
