Prompt: "A song about death"
Selected by Sam
"Die for Your Government"
Anti-Flag
Mobilize, 2002
In my early adolescence, my goody-two-shoes-ness made me feel that bands like this were "bad." I was a little scared of them.
That changed when the emo band When August Came was asked to play someone's birthday party. The resident punk in the band wanted to cover this song. There's something silly with playing a seventeen-year-old's luau birthday party juxtaposed to anarchist punk music. But we must've been good enough, because I eventually started dating the birthday party girl. I'll die for my government if I get a smooch out of it.
