Summer Song Challenge, Day 41: Maeve

Prompt: "A song that you'd share with your grandmother"

Selected by Maeve

"Evangeline"
Stephen Sanchez
single, 2023

I first heard this song on XPN a few months ago and assumed that it was an oldie but goodie. Imagine my surprise when I found out that this song was released this year AND that the singer is only 20. I was genuinely taken aback. Should I have saved this for the "Someone born after Sept. 11th" prompt? Perhaps, but every time I hear it, I think about how much my grandmother would love it. I can clearly picture her holding a glass of chardonnay ("it tastes the worst of the white wines, so I drink it slower"), and swaying to this song with a big smile. I'm not sure how to explain how it feels old timey... is it his voice? Is it reminiscent of other songs from the '50s? Is it the melody? Maybe all of the above.
