Day 73: I Have Never Made a “Morning Drinking” Playlist

Usually, when I make playlists, I make sure each song fits the atmosphere of a party. I make playlists that feature about 200 mid-to-fast-tempo indie rock songs. It’s nice to have these playlists on my iPod, because whether a gathering with friends and beer is planned or impromptu, all I have to do is put the playlist on shuffle to set the appropriate mood: We are friends, let’s get drunk and hang out and bullshit and enjoy each other.

All that to say that there are those rare moments of hanging out when my usual playlists are NOT appropriate. And that’s when we’re drinking in the morning.

I don’t necessarily need "sad," because it’s a joyous occasion too, the morning drinking. But I need a little slower, and little sparser arrangements, because morning drinking is more contemplative, and it’s not usually a party, it’s more the day’s prequel.

If you ever find yourself drinking at 6 AM like I do every once in a while, put this playlist on, hit shuffle, and sip on some cold beers as the sun rises.
