Teenagers are stupid. All of their problems are meaningless. But, man, can they write pop songs.
Caring about anything gives it more meaning. Whether that's on the rules to a round of Thumper or throwing yourself into art, if you give a shit about it, others will care about it too. Olivia achieves that here. She gives such a shit about the minutiae that will eventually become mundane. Her lyrics depict a long backstory to some trivial event that happened last month.
Generally, the songs are good. Some nice Elvis Costello vibes on "brutal," and you can't deny that "drivers license" is the anthem to 2021. I prefer her being loud and incensed to soft and melancholy, but there's a nice balance of stuff to make the more boisterous stuff impactful.
Every generation needs to have a peer be able to articulate how they feel; to put into words their isolation and destroy their solipsism. The themes are timeless; the words can only be uttered by one of them. Olivia has done it with SOUR.
